Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) assesses awareness of the environment and cognition in patients with impaired consciousness. Its purpose is to standardize documentation of changes in neurologic status, and aid in prognosis.

GCS has been available for years on Palm and Windows Mobile platforms. For the first time it is now available in a more intuitive and easier-to-use form for the iPhone and iPod Touch. This is the fastest and most intuitive version of GCS for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

GCS provides physicians, nurses, other healthcare providers, and students quick assessment of Visual, Verbal, and Motor Response, recommended documentation, evidence-based instructions on the proper procedure and documentation, and a cumulative score.

GCS is the only one on iTunes that provides appropriate scoring for clients unable to speak due to dsyphasia or intubation which often not included in other versions of the GCS.

This is also the only Glasgow Coma Scale that provides complete evidence-based instructions for it most valid and reliable use.

Note to GCS Users: Want a different language? Send a note to Support with your request.

A OS 3.1 update will be posted shortly. There have been reported errors when using GCS in the Spanish language. A fix will be posted soon.

Pros and cons of Glasgow Coma Scale app for iPhone and iPad

Glasgow Coma Scale app good for

Yeah, how dare a firm try to make a profit for their hard work. Great little app for triage, hand-offs and as a teaching or self training resource. The beauty of the GCS is its simplicity and how it reaches across scopes of training. Some people who write reviews seem to consistently score in the low singles, if you leave out the verbal component. Great job guys.
I expect 1* reviewer didnt try app or has a competing one. This is perfect for any health care setting. Instead of trying to remember GCS or filling paper form, you can quickly and CORRECTLY plug it into your iphone and continue your assessment. What a great idea! And for all those Professionals claiming you should remember this, etc,:. GCS is NOT A NUMBER!! Please review how its supposed to be used (does E3, V3, M4 mean anything to you?) If you reported a GCS of 13 you reported nothing of use to anyone.

Some bad moments

I used it at work yesterday to quickly figure out a GCS and It gave me a score of 1. It is impossible to have a score less than 3. How can it give you a score of one when the lowest possible score is 3 and the highest possible score is 15. Needs some improvement. I would look around untill they fix it.
I emailed the support person months ago about how you can have a GCS score less than 3? The entire medical community understands this except the creator of this app? Dont waste your time with this.
Crashes most of the time and instead of scores shows you software code
